Prolotherapy Injections
Looking for Prolotherapy in Sydney, Australia? You’ve come to the right place. Pinnacle are Sydney’s leading podiatry experts offering foot and ankle prolotherapy injections as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. It’s important to know that prolotherapy is not the first line treatment for many injuries or conditions, but when standard care has failed, it can be a great option to add to an injury management plan.
‘Prolo’ therapy is short for proliferative therapy. Prolotherapy consists of an injection technique that is theorised to help to stimulate tissue regeneration for chronic soft tissue injuries. For those that are familiar with PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection therapy, prolotherapy works on a similar principle. In reality, we don’t know exactly how these injection therapies work, but they seem to modify pain, are relatively safe and inexpensive when compared to surgery.

Prolotherapy Treatment with Pinnacle
Prolotherapy is a type of injection therapy utilising local anaesthetic and glucose. The prolotherapy solution is injected into a joint, muscle, tendon or ligament with the end goal of improved function and reduced pain at the site of injection. Prolotherapy is commonly used to treat:
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Chronic ankle instability (post sprain)
- Lisfranc joint strain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Sesamoiditis
- Big toe or ankle joint pain
- Various forefoot pathologies AKA metatarsalgia
How Do Prolotherapy Injections Work?
When treating chronic lower limb tendon, joint or ligament injuries that fail standard conservative care, prolotherapy can be worth considering prior to progressing to surgery. Prolotherapy can be administered in the clinic rooms, and you can walk out without discomfort. Usually 2-5 treatments are recommended over a 3-6 month time period.

PROLOTHERAPY WITH PINNACLE
How Does Prolotherapy Work?
The proliferant solution injected in prolotherapy is glucose mixed with local anaesthetic. This solution is designed to stimulate a local influx of white blood cells and platelets including the important pre collagen growth factors needed for tissue repair. This type of treatment works to treat injury and pain by prompting the body’s natural repair mechanisms.
What Can Prolotherapy Help With?
Prolotherapy can help with conditions that are not responding to standard care. Standard care usually involves education around what your injury is and why you developed it. Before recommending prolotherapy, podiatrists at Pinnacle like to make sure other usual care has failed such as graded rehab and load management advice.
We generally use and recommend prolotherapy to manage:
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Chronic ankle instability (post sprain)
- Various forefoot pathologies AKA metatarsalgia
- Lisfranc joint strain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Sesamoiditis
- Big toe or ankle joint pain
